Dr. David B. Musante

As the former Medical Staff President and current Medical Director of North Carolina Specialty Hospital, Dr. David Musante specializes in providing advanced approaches and patient-centered orthopedic care. His fellowship-training in spinal surgery for a variety of spine problems, combined with his extensive education and knowledge in minimally invasive surgical techniques and artificial cervical and lumbar disc replacement surgery, enable Dr. Musante to address a diverse range of back, neck, and spine injuries and conditions.

Additionally, Dr. Musante has been recognized as one of Vitals.com’s Top 10 Doctors in orthopedic surgery for the state of North Carolina and has been honored with the Vitals.com Patients’ Choice Award every year since 2011.

And, for upwards of 15 years, Dr. Musante has served as Director of the Clinical Research Program and as an Investigator in Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clinical trials on disc replacement and numerous other spinal treatments.

Educational Background, Certification, and Services

Dr. Musante graduated from the University of Virginia School of Engineering with Distinction, as well as the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Following, he trained in neurological surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle and in orthopedic surgery at Duke University Medical Center.

Dr. Musante received fellowship training in spinal surgery at the Texas Back Institute in Plano, Texas. In 2007, he was board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

Today, Dr. Musante is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the North American Spine Society, the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery, the North Carolina Spine Association, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the Durham-Orange County Medical Society.

His extensive educational background, training, and knowledge enable Dr. Musante to address a number of spinal disorders and conditions, which include:
