Dr. Ryan K. Takenaga

As a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Ryan Takenaga specializes in general orthopedics for North Carolina Specialty Hospital. His extensive training and experience enable Dr. Takenaga to address a wide range of orthopedic issues, from sports medicine injuries and conditions to shoulder pain, trigger finger, ACL tears, and more.

Educational Background, Certification, and Expertise

Prior to his education and subsequent career in orthopedics, Dr. Takenaga studied business economics at the University of California, Los Angeles. He also spent two years in the business world and acquired a master’s degree in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics from Biola University in La Mirada, California. From there, Dr. Takenaga earned a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin.

It was his passion to serve those in need that prompted Dr. Takenaga to later pursue a career in medicine. After graduating from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, he completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. During his residency, Dr. Takenaga conducted research, published articles, and presented at meetings. His research and published work has covered a range of subject matter, including the fragility fractures and the long-term outcomes of total hip arthroplasty, as examples.

His expertise in general orthopedics enables Dr. Takenaga to diagnose and treat a number of injuries and conditions, which include:
