Dr. Walter Woodrow Burns III

Focused on the diagnosis and treatment of chronic and acute wounds, Dr. Walter Woodrow Burns III is dedicated to providing expert, patient-centered wound care to his patients. He has been in practice over two decades and has held several leadership roles with local medical and surgical organizations throughout the years.

Educational Background, Expertise, and Services

Dr. Burns graduated from Davidson College before earning a medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Burns worked as a general surgeon at Regional Surgical Associates in Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina for 12 years. He currently practices at EmergeOrtho—Triangle Region in addition to North Carolina Specialty Hospital.

Throughout his career, Dr. Burns has received several honors. He was selected as chief resident of the year, received the Duke teamwork award for the Surgical Care Improvement Project, served as president of the NC Surgical Association, and was inducted into the Chapel Hill High School Sports Hall of Fame.
