Dr. Chap is originally from Washington, D.C., and he earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame and his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Upon completion of medical school, he moved back to the East Coast, where he completed his internship and residency in general surgery as well as a fellowship in surgical critical care at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia.

Dr. Chap served as a General Surgeon at Person Memorial Hospital (PMH) in Roxboro from 2013-2016. In addition to his clinical duties at PMH, Dr. Chap helped lead the implementation of the physician order entry system, served as the hospital's occupational health physician, and was a member of the peer review committee. In 2015, Dr. Chap was honored as the Person County Health Care Provider of the Year.

Dr. Chap treats illnesses in the following areas: 

  • Abdominal surgery - for diseases of the gallbladder, small bowel, appendix, and large bowel

  • Breast surgery - for benign and malignant breast diseases

  • Hernia surgery - for inguinal, femoral, ventral/incisional, and other hernias

  • Anorectal disease - hemmorhoids, anal fissures, abscesses, fistulas and anal warts

Dr. Chap treats patients at the Durham (William Penn Plaza), Oxford, and Wake Forest offices.
