Dr. William P. Silver

Dr. William P. Silver is a board-certified Orthopedic Sports Medicine and General Orthopedics specialist. He specializes in treating injuries and conditions that ail the knee and shoulder. With his considerable experience in sports medicine, Dr. Silver strives to help athletes and non-athletes return to their peak physical ability.

Education and Expertise

After receiving his undergraduate degree at Duke University, Dr. Silver went on to medical school at Wake Forest University. He then completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at Duke University. While he was at Duke, he served as an assistant team physician for both Duke and North Carolina Central University athletes.

While at EmergeOrtho, Dr. Silver has served as the Medical Director for the Triangle Division and the Executive Committee. He is also a member of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Piedmont Orthopaedic Society.

Dr. Silver holds subspecialty certificates in both orthopedics and orthopedic sports medicine. With those certificates, he specializes in addressing multiple shoulder conditions and injuries, such as:

  • Bicep tear
  • Separated shoulder
  • Shoulder dislocation
  • Shoulder fracture
  • Clavicle fracture
  • Rotator cuff tear

While Dr. Silver specializes in shoulder injuries and conditions, he also treats knee injuries such as meniscus tears, ACL tears, and more. Community Connections

Before joining the EmergeOrtho—Triangle Region team, Dr. Silver operated as a team physician for the Durham School of the Arts, the Norfolk Tides Minor League Baseball team, Old Dominion University, and Athens Drive High School. He also served as the medical director for Virginia Beach’s Shamrock Marathon.

In addition, he served on the North Carolina Physician’s Advisory Group, as the president of Durham/Orange County Medical Society, as the treasurer of the NC Orthopaedic Association’s Political Action Committee, and on the Blue Cross Shield.

Dr. Silver has been an orthopedic consultant for the PGA, LPGA, and Champion’s Tours with his Titleist Performance Institute certification. Currently, he is a team physician for the Durham Bulls and is a founding member of the Raleigh Capital Area Soccer League Sports Medicine Society.
