Dr. Gary Y. Liao spent his childhood and early teen years in Thomasville, North Carolina. He moved to the Triangle area to attend High School at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham. He obtained his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Upon graduating from college, he moved to South Florida to attend Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami Florida where he earned his Doctorate in Podiatry. He completed a comprehensive three year surgical residency focusing on elective and reconstructive foot surgery at Catholic Health Systems/Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, New York. He has the privilege of serving as chief resident during his third year of residency. During his residency, Dr. Liao developed a special interest in sports medicine of the lower extremity, general podiatry and reconstructive forefoot surgery.
Dr. Liao is fluent in Taiwanese and Mandarin Chinese and in his free time enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, playing racquetball and baseball and cheering on his Tar Heels during basketball season.
