North Carolina Specialty Hospital Earns Full Transparency Badge from The Leapfrog Group

DURHAM, N.C., AUGUST 27, 2026 — North Carolina Specialty Hospital has earned the Leapfrog Full Transparency Badge, recognizing the hospital’s commitment to publicly reporting information about patient safety and quality through the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey.

The Full Transparency Badge is awarded to hospitals that complete, affirm, and submit all sections of the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, one of the nation’s leading voluntary reporting programs focused on patient safety, quality, and transparency.

“Transparency is essential to building trust with the patients and families we serve,” said Randi Shults, RN, BSN, MHSA, CNOR(e), Chief Executive Officer of North Carolina Specialty Hospital. “Earning the 2026 Leapfrog Full Transparency Badge reflects our ongoing commitment to openly sharing quality and safety information and continually improving the care we provide.”

North Carolina Specialty Hospital has served Durham and the greater Triangle Region since opening in 1926, providing individualized inpatient and outpatient surgical care across orthopedics, ophthalmology, ear, nose and throat surgery, sports medicine, joint replacement, oral surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, podiatry, general surgery, pain management, gynecology and urology. Patient safety, quality and accountability are central to the hospital’s mission. NCSH maintains a 4:1 patient-to-nurse ratio and has earned a five-star CMS rating for patient experience, along with CareChex recognition for ranking among the nation’s top hospitals for major orthopedic surgery. The Full Transparency Badge reinforces NCSH’s commitment to giving patients and families clear information about the quality and safety of their care.

“We applaud North Carolina Specialty Hospital for its commitment to transparency,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Transparency is one of the most powerful drivers of improvement in health care. By fully participating in the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, North Carolina Specialty Hospital is helping patients and families access meaningful information about the safety and quality of their care.”

The Leapfrog Full Transparency Badge appears on Leapfrog’s public ratings website and identifies hospitals that have committed to openly sharing information about their performance.
