Dr. Michael Merz is a highly trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction and hip preservation. As Chief of Staff, he brings a wealth of expertise in surgical innovation and patient-centered care.
Dr. Merz graduated magna cum laude from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science degree before earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago, where he served as the administrative chief resident in his final year.
Following residency, Dr. Merz pursued advanced fellowship training in adult reconstruction and hip preservation. He was the Otto E. Aufranc Fellow in Adult Reconstruction at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, where he gained extensive experience in primary and revision total hip and knee replacement, as well as partial knee replacement. He then completed a second fellowship in hip preservation at Boston Children’s Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. There, he trained under internationally recognized surgeons, refining his expertise in arthroscopy and osteotomies of the pelvis and femur for patients ranging from infancy to middle age.
